The construction project includes planning, designing, and financing and continues until the project is built and ready for use.

There are several types of construction projects such as residential, commercial, industrial, heavy civil, and environmental construction. Residential construction includes houses, apartments, townhouses, and other smaller buildings. Commercial construction includes office buildings, warehouses, retail store buildings. Industrial construction is typically larger and involves warehouses, factories, power generation, and sewage treatment plants. Heavy civil includes the construction of large-scale public works like bridges, dams, railways, roads, and water or wastewater management systems. Environmental construction involves environmental improvements such as drainage and erosion control.

The construction process often involves a variety of key professionals including architects, civil engineers, project managers, and construction engineers. It also involves multiple phases and steps to maintain safety, quality, and control costs. The project may require surveying the land on which the construction will take place, and then obtaining necessary building permits from relevant government bodies. Then, the site is prepared through excavation or flattening, followed by the foundational work. Superstructure work (walls, roofs) follows, and finally, the finishing phase includes installing fixtures, painting, flooring, and lighting. 

Health and safety are a big concern in the field of construction because of the risks associated with construction sites, and various laws and regulations are in place to ensure the safety of workers. 

Sustainability is also increasingly important in construction. Green building practices can include everything from using environmentally-friendly materials, energy-efficient building methods, to designing buildings that use natural light effectively.
